The home of all things vegan, Portland, Oregon now also boasts the world’s first self-proclaimed vegan strip club.
Casa Diablo Gentlemen's Club is owned by Johnny Diablo, a 44-year-old ethical vegan of 23 years, noted for starting Portland’s now closed pirate-themed vegan restaurant.
All of the food at Casa Diablo is vegan, although the club’s owner chooses not to promote it. Offering simple Mexican-based fare, the menu comes with no description of the meals. The Fajita Platter sells for $8.00 and simply gives customers the option of ‘steak or chicken’, although diners are not forewarned their meal will be a soy substitute and not the real deal.
The all-female strippers don’t need to be vegan, but Diablo says most of them don’t eat meat. The club does, however, enforce a strict rule of ‘no murder on the dance floor’, with girls unable to wear leather, fur, silk or wool. The vegan venue also claims to be the ‘first and only’ smoke-free strip club in Portland, making this an all round ethical and healthy option for those seeking adult entertainment. Vegan pirates and strippers…what will Portland do next? WORDS: aduki |
