Vegan Chicken Parma (VIC) PDF Print

The East Brunswick Club recently added a very special meal to the menu, the vegan ‘chicken’ parma with chips and salad. The only veg-friendly dish on the menu, this little delight is worth travelling for.

The kitchen buys mock chicken and crumbs the schnitzels onsite. The crumbs are deliciously crunchy and nicely seasoned. Due to the home made nature, the size of schnitzels tends to vary and you may encounter a monster dish that’s difficult to finish. It comes with a rich Napoli sauce and grilled soy cheese on top. Freshly cooked chips and a basic garden salad come with the meal. The first bite of the ‘chicken’ will have you wondering if it is truly mock meat or the real deal (our kitchen sources assure us it’s vegan!).

The dish costs $17 including the sides which is a little pricey for a pub meal but most definitely worth treating yourself. For a cheaper option the Club offers $6 vegan eggplant parmas on weekdays 12-3pm and Saturdays and Sundays until 6pm. Also, on Tuesday nights you can enjoy $10 eggplant parma and free trivia from 7.30pm.

**Update, Wednesday 18 June 2008**

Great news for Melbourne vegans, The EBC has extended the menu to include regular dishes and specials such as vegan bolognese, a 'bacon' cheeseburger, a 'chicken' burger with avocado and mayo, and souvlaki. The specials night is Monday, with heaps of vegan options for $10. You can also get a vegan 'chicken' parma on Tuesdays for $10. Another great addition to the menu are the cakes from local vegan cook Sarah McNabb. aduki online will be featuring an interview with Sarah in the coming weeks. Her tasty vegan creations include a wickedly rich black forest choc cheesecake, lemon-lime cheesecake and coconut and vanilla crumble. Desserts are $7 and available all nights of the week.
