DeVito used to oversee ethical clothing factories around the world, and became interested in creating his own clothing line. Vokova was born in the Soviet Union, but came to New York where she has been working in fashion for years. Among other things she styled the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Sans' palette is subtle, it's the cuts that are striking. Their square tees are pleasingly simple and improbably flattering. Soy socks with a twist on an argyle print are a scream.
Look for the items made from organic cotton, recycled polyester, soy, ‘vegetable cashmere’ and bamboo. They also use tussah silk, which is silk harvested in tropical and semi-tropical forests after the silk moths discard their cocoons, opposed to commercially derived silk where the pupae are destroyed before the adult moths emerge. Every season, they source Japanese organic denim for their jeans.
Creating avant-garde clothing with real wearability, we eagerly anticipate their next collection.
Based in Brooklyn, New York, they ship to Australia. WORDS: Vanessa Toholka |
