Green Tucker is a Melbourne blog about two women's search to
reduce the environmental impact of the food they eat. Unlike many other
gimmicky fads – 100 mile diet, anyone? – the authors understand that sometimes
eating locally isn't the best thing environmentally and so the blog reflects a
broad investigation into food miles, production and distribution.
The blog has interesting tips and facts, including practical information about
the best ways to source environmentally friendly food. The suggestions are not
radical and could easily be implemented by just about anyone. There are also
lots of resources for anyone investigating the benefits of eating more
seasonally and locally, information about Melbourne
markets, and links to other books and websites.
The authors of the blog don’t claim to be experts, just two people questioning
everything. One downside is that the blog is not vegan; Wendy is vegetarian and
Kate eats meat. However, any investigation into environmentally friendly eating
quickly starts to reveal that 'meat eating environmentalist' is an oxymoron, so
hopefully in the future Green Tucker
will evolve into a more vegan-aware space.
