Siue Moffat is a vegan dessert cookbook
author and chocolatier, who’s been vegetarian for 21 years. Her books are
called Lickin’ the Beaters (one low fat, one chocolate and candy) and published
by PM Press.
Name: Siue Moffat
Occupation: Chocolatier/cookbook
author/film archivist
1. One food item you can not live
without?
I would say soy, but I went on this intense diet for a few months and
couldn’t eat beans of any kind.
2. Finish this sentence: "In the
kitchen I am…"
…a bit of a bitch. I get really focussed, especially when working on chocolate
and candy. I just want to be left alone!
3. Best thing about living in Toronto?
After 15 years I’m coming across nooks and crannies I never bothered to venture
into, and it’s like discovering a whole new
city.
4. If you were a vegetable what would
you be?
A green
pea.
5. Best thing about being vegan?
Knowing I’m
putting a kink in a system that seems to feed on negativity and violence.
6. What are you currently reading?
Revolution at the table: The
Transformation of the American Diet by Harvey Levenstein and Conversations with Don Durito by Subcomandante Marcos
7. Who would you like to trade places
with for a day?
Jane
Goodall – I’ve been a bit obsessed with chimps since I was a wee tot.
8. What would be the title of your
autobiography?
A History of Waffles and Pockets
9. Favourite place to have a meal?
In some dunes!
10. One thing that would make the world
a better place?
One really
easy way to make the world a better place (but by no means perfect) is to
switch immediately from gas to solar and wind and all grocery stores to carry
mostly local products. It’s not much, it’s a drop in the bucket…

Siue jumps between food and film archiving as she can’t figure out which one
she loves the best. When not working Siue loves to travel, go to beaches and
dunes, eat vegan ice cream, go on bike rides, listen to community radio, make
zines, collect flattened pennies, battle mice, read Peanuts comics, collect
design books and talk in a high voice to cats. Her website ,
gives all interweb coordinates.
