Vegan milkshakes in Melbourne PDF Print
Tuesday, 15 July 2008
ShakeAwayBorn in the UK, this novel idea has recently landed in Melbourne. And don’t be fooled by the shopping centre location, ShakeAway is a vegan’s paradise. The milkshake stand offers some 120 flavours, more than 30 of which can be made vegan with soy milk and soy ice cream.

A separate blender is marked ‘dairy free’ and used solely for vegan milkshakes. The server even changes his gloves after making a dairy shake to make our vegan ones! Nut and gluten allergies are also catered for, customers only need ask and the helpful staff will whip out a separate menu that lists the vegan, gluten-free and nut-free options. Inventive flavours include caramel popcorn, peanut butter, orange marmalade, rhubarb and tic tacs peppermint.

The coco pops and apple and cinnamon flavours are both delicious and the shakes are thick, creamy and rather filling. They come in two sizes, regular ($5.95) and large ($7.10) and it costs a little extra for soy milk and ice cream. You can also add a second flavour, toppings, more ice cream or a powder (such as malt or protein) for a small fee.

The service is fast and friendly and all of the ingredients that go into the shakes are the real deal. I saw the guy open the mini box of Coco Pops and empty them into the blender. They also have and oreo flavoured shake that’s not listed on the vegan menu, but is in fact vegan. It just depends if you are happy to eat a food with vegan ingredients that is produced on machines that also make foods that contain dairy.
