Maud N LilAn Australian-based design company, Maud N Lil has been creating certified organic cotton underwear since 1993. The basic pieces offer both men and women a range of styles and sizes for the perfect fit.

The women’s range is made up of four styles: camisole, thong, hip-pant and a women’s boxer. The men’s line also has four options: a singlet, t-shirt, sports boxers and briefs. The SKAL certified organic fabric is oxygen whitened and sizes range from small to extra large.

The company also creates an adorable range of toys for babies and young kids called ‘Creatures of Comfort’. The range offers three animals: a puppy dog called ‘Paws’; a bunny rabbit called ‘Ears’; and a teddy bear called ‘Cubby’. Each creature comes in his own special organic cotton embroidered carry bag and is made in fair trade facilities. The surface fabric is certified organic cotton and the stuffing is made from natural corn starch filling, making them machine washable and great for sensitive kids.

The focus on organic cotton for Maud N Lil evolved as the owners realised the influence and damage of the crop. They believe there is a very real need to ‘provide well designed products made from sustainable textiles as a market option both locally in Australia and internationally.’

In 2003 Maud N Lil moved their production offshore to countries where the certified organic cotton is grown and processed and where they could support Fairtrade and Oeketex (European accreditors of environmentally sound textile processing) facilities.

One of their future goals is to help create a market for certified organic cotton products. This market will encourage more cotton farmers and related companies to produce certified organic cotton thereby protecting the soil and water supply for future generations to farm. A list of Australian and worldwide stockists for both the toys and underwear can be found on the Maud N Lil website.
